Day 1: Arrive Auckland
After your flight to New Zealand, arrive in Auckland for a day of relaxation. Once you get settled and un-wind a bit, enjoy the city known as the Gateway-to-New Zealand. From culture to cosmopolitan, Auckland is the perfect introduction in your South Pacific experience.
Day 2: Auckland to Waitomo to Rotorua
(226 miles/369 Kms) (Lunch and Dinner Included) Leaving Auckland, head on down to the Waitomo Glow-worm Caves where the mystery and mystique of nature's uniqueness will awe even the world's most traveled visitors. As you glide down the river in the caves, lit by thousands of tiny glow-worms, only the sound of dripping water will remind you that you are not, in fact, under a starry night sky. Then you will continue onto Rotorua where you can enjoy the culture with a Maori Hangi, a feast!
Day 3: Rotorua
Today, experience the geothermal wonders around Rotorua! Begin the morning with a trip to Te Puia thermal Reserve where you will see bubbling mud pools, steaming hot springs, and the famous Pohutu Geyser. Then your journey continues on to the wildlife reserve of Rainbow Springs, home to the native Kiwi bird. After enjoying the flora and fauna, taste the life of New Zealand's farmers with a trip to the Agrodome where you can discover New Zealand's agriculture and see a sheep-sheering display.
Day 4: Rotorua to Queenstown
Hop on a flight this morning from Rotorua to Queenstown, New Zealand's Adventure Capital! (Flight not included) Once you arrive you will be transferred to your hotel, after which you have the day for leisure activities as you wish. From hot air ballooning, skiing and snowboarding (season permitting), jet boating to wine-tasting and world-famous spa's, Queenstown has an activity to suit everyone's fancy.
Day 5: Milford Sound Cruise
Today you'll travel up to Milford Sound, the Fiordland's most famous and accessible glacier-carved fiords. On arrival, you'll take a cruise through the deep blue waters seeing cascading waterfalls, sheer cliffs, dense rainforest, towering mountains and wildlife ranging from dolphins to penguins. The rest of your afternoon and evening is free for your enjoyment.
Day 6: Queenstown
A day set aside for rest and relaxation or even another adventure, today you can experience all that the Adventure Capital Queenstown has to offer. Eco-tourism, hiking trips, river rafting, helicopter rides, you decide!
Day 7: Queenstown to Mt Cook to Christchurch
(369 Miles/594 Kms) Travel this morning to the emotive landscape of the Aoraki Mount Cook Mackenzie region with over one million acres of high golden tundra encircled by sky piercing mountains. Visit the beautiful Lake Tekapo with soaring views of the awe-inspiring Mt Cook. Then you'll move on across the Rakaia River and the Canterbury Plains as you continue your journey on to Christchurch.
